Internship & Associate Program

Have you ever wondered how change happens?  Ever wonder if you could be a part of something that will improve the lives of billions around the world? It all starts here.   

Applications for the Spring are due December 1, 2014.  We encourage early applicants.

Jubilee USA Network is building an international economy that serves, protects and promotes the participation of the most vulnerable. Jubilee USA Network has won critical global financial reforms and more than $130 billion in debt relief for the world's poorest people. We are an alliance of more than 75 US organizations, 300 faith communities and 50 Jubilee global partners.

Jubilee associate positions are for qualified individuals with an expressed interest in working on debt cancellation, human rights and global economic justice.  The positions provide an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in a dynamic nonprofit.  

Jubilee USA associate positions are unpaid but we do have a modest monthly travel stipend. Arrangements can also be made to receive academic credit for the experience.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have strong written and verbal skills, attention to detail, a passion for working on global justice issues and have a strong knowledge of issues of debt and foreign economic policy. Knowledge of computer programs such as Excel and Word and familiarity with online communications is desired.  Ability to work as part of a team is necessary. We give applicants that can work 40 hours a week a higher priority but we are flexible.

INTERNSHIP AND ASSOCIATE POSITIONS

Jubilee USA is a small and collaborative organization.  Therefore, all associates will assist with the operations of the organization and will have the opportunity to work with the other teams and create projects suited to their particular interests.  All Jubilee associates will have the chance to: 

  • Attend educational and advocacy events at partner organizations, International Financial Institutions and Congress
  • Establish connections through outreach to Jubilee USA's network of over 75 religious denominations, human rights, environmental, labor and community groups
  • Participate in office-wide and team meetings including staff meetings, brainstorming sessions and the annual Network Council meeting (fall only)
  • Learn valuable office skills in the everyday operations of a nonprofit


Organizing & Outreach Associate

The Organizing and Outreach Associate position is an internship that works closely with Jubilee USA's grassroots team on our newest advocacy campaigns.  The associate will also work with the policy team to write policy resources for grassroots supporters, but particularly focus on Jubilee's grassroots advocacy. The position will include a wide range of responsibilities:

  • Working closely with Jubilee's outreach team to design and implement grassroots campaigns;
  • Creating grassroots-friendly education, worship and campaign materials;
  • Working closely with and supporting a network of volunteers across the country;
  • Supporting the Jubilee Congregations program;
  • Designing and implementing e-activism and new media campaigns; and
  • Working with staff on other staff-wide priority projects as need arises

Applicants must exhibit commitment to social and economic justice, strong written skills, personable with strong phone communication skills, self-motivated and be able to work well with people of diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of international debt, economic justice issues is a plus.  All types of organizing experience is preferred. Positive attitude a must!


Development & Executive Associate

The Development and Executive Associate position is an internship that works directly with Jubilee USA's Executive Director and Communications Director.  They will have the opportunity to learn about nonprofit fundraising, grant applications and direct mail outreach. Jubilee USA receives support from foundations, individual supporters, faith communities and network members. This position is suited well for individuals interested in business or nonprofit administration.  Tasks include:

  • Assist in increasing online donor fundraising
  • Organize, write and assemble grant proposals
  • Conduct donor outreach
  • Help prepare annual fundraising appeal and annual report
  • Update and write web and print materials for donor outreach
  • Provide administrative support including:
    • Data entry: Entering new supporters and updating existing supporters in our databases
    • Office functions: Assist with direct mailings and other related administrative work to support Jubilee's development activities
    • Draft and edit documents, spreadsheets and reports related to the daily operations of the organization
  • Play a key role in organizing and coordinating logistics for Jubilee USA's annual meeting (fall only)
  • Arrange meetings and plan events
  • Attend Jubilee USA Network meetings, coalition events and related conferences

Development Associate

The Development Associate position is an internship that works directly with Jubilee USA's Campaigns Director and Communications Director. This associate will have the opportunity to learn about nonprofit fundraising, grant applications and direct mail outreach. Jubilee USA receives support from a range of sources, including foundations, individual supporters, faith communities and partner organizations. As such, this position offers a broad range of development experience and is suited for individuals interested in business or nonprofit administration.  

This associate will:

  • Research and strategize new development options
  • Assist in increasing online donor fundraising
  • Organize, write and assemble grant proposals
  • Conduct donor outreach
  • Help prepare the annual fundraising appeal and annual report (Fall only)
  • Update and write web and print materials for donor outreach
  • Provide administrative support including data entry, research and more.

Policy & Advocacy Associate

The Policy and Advocacy Associate position is an internship that works closely with Jubilee USA's policy team on our newest advocacy campaigns.  Encompassing both policy and advocacy, this position will include a wide range of research, writing, lobbying, outreach, organizing and policy education that supports Jubilee's campaign priorities.  Tasks include:

  • Maintain Jubilee's advocacy databases 
  • Support the policy and advocacy team in communications with Congress and DC-based partner organizations
  • Update advocacy-related content for Jubilee website 
  • Research and write Jubilee materials used for outreach to policymakers and the public
  • Assist in outreach to Jubilee's grassroots community, through phone calls, email communication and meetings on specific campaigns
  • Communicate with faith communities about newest activities and campaigns
  • Work closely with Jubilee's advocacy team to design and implement grassroots campaigns including grassroots-friendly education, worship and campaign materials
  • Work closely with and support a network of volunteers across the country
  • Design and implement e-activism and new media campaigns
  • Provide administrative support including:
    • Data entry: Entering new supporters and updating existing supporters in our databases
    • Office functions: Assist with mailings and other related administrative work to support Jubilee's grassroots, development and policy activities
  • Attend Jubilee USA Network meetings, coalition events and related conferences

Media & Communications Associate

The Media and Communications Associate position is an internship that works directly with the Communications Director.  This position will include everyday maintenance and special projects related to both Jubilee USA's internal and external communications including writing and editing online content, organizational resources and press materials.   This position is best suited for individuals interested in engaging in the nuts and bolts of media outreach and relations. Experience preferred.

  • Write and coordinate press materials
  • Research and outreach to reporters
  • Write and coordinate blog and social media
  • Maintain press files and update press lists
  • Help write, edit and design educational, grassroots, policy and marketing materials
  • Update website
  • Office functions: Assist with mailings and other related administrative work to support Jubilee's grassroots, development, communications and policy activities
  • Attend Jubilee USA meetings, coalition events and related conferences

Operations Associate

The Operations Associate position is an internship that works closely with all of Jubilee USA's teams. Encompassing policy, advocacy and communications, this position will include a wide range of research, writing, outreach and social media planning that supports Jubilee's campaign priorities. Tasks include:

  • Maintain Jubilee's advocacy databases 
  • Assist with development
  • Design and implement e-activism and new media campaigns
  • Provide administrative support including:
    • Data entry: Entering new supporters and updating existing supporters in our databases
    • Office functions: Assist with mailings and other related administrative work to support Jubilee's grassroots, development and policy activities
  • Attend Jubilee USA Network meetings, coalition events and related conferences
  • Assist the communications team as necessary with social media, blogs and media outreach

Social Media Associate

The Social Media Associate position is an internship that works directly with Jubilee USA's Communications Director. This associate will have the opportunity to learn about social media strategy, online communications and online organizing. Social media is increasingly becoming an essential part of outreach and communications for any organization. Jubilee’s Social Media Associate will play an integral part in creating and implementing social media strategy.

This associate will:

  • Research and strategize social media strategies
  • Create graphics
  • Improve Jubilee’s social media following
  • Increase engagement

Muslim Community Outreach Associate

The Muslim Community Outreach Associate will help connect and facilitate the growth of our interfaith alliance within the Muslim community, and to strengthen our interfaith network to reflect the diversity of our communities and globe. 

Responsibilities include a minimum of ten hours a week helping to:

  • Develop Muslim specific grassroots materials, 
  • Strategic outreach to local and regional mosques and Muslim communities, and 
  • Support building Jubilee USA network's long-term relationships to Muslim community members.
