Jubilee USA Network is a coalition of over 75 faith communities, environmental organizations, and a variety of other groups, working towards expanded debt cancellation and responsible lending to impoverished countries. As two of the many fellowships under the BVS banner, Jubilee USA’s DC-based fellowships welcome the volunteers to become integral parts of Jubilee’s dedicated team.
Policy Fellow job responsibilities include: - Creating literature and fact sheets about debt
- Representing Jubilee at planning meetings, appointments with Congress members, and public events
- Participating in and assisting with monthly conference calls
- Conducting research as needed to respond to new information or events that pertain to Jubilee's work
- Helping with office tasks
Other responsibilities are flexible depending on the skills and interests of the fellow.
Requirements: - Strong passion for economic justice and right relationships among people
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Familiarity with general government and/or foreign policy issues
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Benefits: - Three weeks vacation
- Christmas week and Federal government holidays off
- Housing is paid for, health insurance is provided, a modest food and leisure stipend is also provided

The position would begin in early August 2011 and last through August 2012.

Katherine Phillipson
Last year, Katherine attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen as a youth delegate and activist. She also participated in the Princeton Public Policy and Junior Summer Institute scholarship and preparation program. In 2008, Katherine lived in Senegal and interned with Tostan, an NGO seeking to empower communities through holistic non-formal education.
At the University of Oregon, Katherine majored in International Studies with a focus on Comparative Development. There she co-founded and helped lead two activist groups: UO Students for Global Health and the Climate Justice League. Katherine currently lives in Washington, D.C. and is a part of the Brethren Volunteer Service.
