Postcards to send a message to your senators and representative, urging them to co-sponsor the Jubilee Act (S. 2166, H.R. 2634), which provides for greater responsibility in lending and expanded cancellation of debts owed to the U.S. and the international financial institutions by impoverished countries.
This year is a critical year for the Jubilee Act.
Introduced last June in the House and October in the Senate, the Jubilee Act is the single most important piece of debt legislation in the past seven years and it is one of the most widely supported anti-poverty bills in Congress.
Send a Measure Up! Postcard to both of your senators and your representative today! Here's how:
1. You have two senators and one representative.
- To find out who your Senators are, go to www.senate.gov and select your state from the drop down box in the upper right hand corner of the page.
- To find out who your Representative is, go to www.house.gov and enter your zip code in the box in the upper left corner of the page.
2. Find out whether your Senators and Representative are signed on to the Jubilee Act at www.thomas.gov.
- For Senators: look up S. 2166; click on “bill summary and status”; then click on “Cosponsors”
- For Reps look up H.R. 2634; click on “bill summary and status”; then click on “Cosponsors”.
3. Address your postcards to:
