Please join us and give one prayer on the weekend of July 24th-26th for debt relief for our young people.
The average four-year college graduate owes $35,000 in student debt and according to the Federal Reserve, student debt obligations nearly quadrupled from 2004 to 2015. In 2014, outstanding debt alone reached $1.3 trillion. High interest rates make debt repayment difficult and leave our students with heavy financial burdens.
When talking to students, often the first question they ask us is - how does Jubilee USA's work relate to my student loans? How can I work for debt and lending and borrowing policies that reduce poverty in the developing world and support students here in the United States?
Jubilee for Students bridges local and global movements for responsible lending and borrowing and fair debt policies. Just as international debt crises have spread from the global south to northern economies - we see debt crises impacting our young people here in the United States just as they should be preparing to enter the workforce.
In 2013, over 60 religious communities across the nation joined us in prayer to stop Congress from nearly doubling student loan interest rates. This year we will further grow support for student loan policies that protect our nation's young people.
Join us July 24th-26th and give one prayer in your community for affordable education and student loan policies that protect our young people.
