"The Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences this week hosted a conference to develop and propose reforms that would help address the burden of debt in developing countries. A commission of experts presented the final outcome of a Jubilee Report, which aims to provide an assessment of the current debt crisis while serving as a blueprint for reforms to the international financial architecture.

Discussing this report with Vatican Radio, one of the experts who participated in the event—Eric LeCompte, the Executive Director of Jubilee USA Network—said:

"We are incredibly excited to release this report from the Jubilee Commission that was convened by Pope Francis. The report is really historic, because what it does is it gives us the technical solutions to dealing with one of the worst crises facing humanity of this time, and that's the debt and financial crisis that the majority of the world's countries are suffering through.

The focus of this Jubilee Year is on debt relief, and Pope Francis made a historic speech just about a year ago on the need not only for debt relief, but to make changes to the international financial system to support people. This is the first time that a pope has commissioned a report to offer the technical solutions we need within the financial system.

What the report does is three things. It offers the solutions to deal with the world's current debt crises we are experiencing. Then second, it offers solutions to prevent future crises. And third, it offers a set of recommendations that not only will prevent future debt crises but, just as important, be able to end poverty in our world by building an economy where everyone has enough."
